Research Instruments Pte Ltd (RI) is a leading
full service distributor of instruments, supplies and reagents for the
analytical and research laboratories. RI represents
industry leading manufacturers in providing next-generation tools and
techniques together with services including training, maintenance, development
of analysis methods and instrument validation.
Established in Singapore in 1989, Research Instruments Group employs
approximately 100 people in SE Asia catering to our customers in the fields of
life science research, pharmaceuticals and health supplements, food and
agriculture, chemicals, polymers and materials, and electronics and
semiconductor.
RI has been a pioneer in introducing new
instrument techniques and research tools into the region by organizing seminars
and workshops with scientists and engineers from overseas universities,
institutions and companies. Since 1989, RI organized
and hosted some of the first commercial seminars and workshops in advanced
technologies. Some of these technologies included AFM, DNA & peptide
synthesis, MALDI-TOF MS, MS-MS for protein sequencing, 2-D electrophoresis,
FT-Raman spectroscopy, Nano-LC, LC-MS-MS, microarray spotting and scanning,
RNAi technology, cellular imaging etc.

Gregor Kent, Chief Executive Officer
Mr Gregor Kent, the principal founder of the company, has led the company since its inception in 1989. Before starting the Research Instruments group of companies, he has studied chemistry at the University of Massachusetts after which he began his career with Waters Inc. in the USA, eventually holding various management positions in service and sales during his career with Waters and Millipore in both Europe and Asia. Since 1989, Mr. Kent has been leading and building the RI group of companies including Research Instruments Pte Ltd (Singapore), Research Instruments Sdn Bhd (Malaysia), RI Technologies Ltd (Thailand), and most recently Origen Laboratories Pte Ltd (Singapore).

Eric Tay, Chief Financial Officer
Mr Eric Tay joined the company as the chief financial officer in 2004. Prior to
joining the company, he was the regional financial controller for Mobile 365
(now Sybase 365), leader in the global delivery and settlement of mobile
messaging interoperability, and the management and distribution of mobile
content. He also has 10 years’ working experience in a CPA firm –
Lo Hock Ling & Co, an independent member of Polaris International, where he
was a senior manager. His experience then included audit, tax, accounting
services, financial and IT consultancy. Eric is a fellow member of Institute of
Certified Public Accountants of Singapore and Association of Chartered
Certified Accountants (UK). |

Thomas J Murphy, Chief Scientific Officer (Life Sciences)
Dr. Thomas Murphy is a cell biologist with over 10 years' experience in
molecular cell biology and target identification and validation. His particular
research interests include biological imaging, cell signaling, and
angiogenesis. Prior to joining Research Instruments, Dr. Murphy worked as an
Applications Scientist at Thermo Fisher Scientific Dharmacon® RNAi Technology,
to advise fellow scientists on advancements being made in the field of RNA
interference. During his post-doctoral fellowship, he worked at the Novartis
Institute for Functional Genomics (GNF) in San Diego, where he was responsible
for conceiving and implementing siRNA-based genomic screens against
inflammatory and oncology pathways. He received his B.A. in Biology from
Occidental College, followed by his Ph.D. from the Molecular Biology Institute
at University of California, Los Angeles. He has also held research positions
at UC San Francisco and Amgen Inc. |
